The last Feast discussed on how to hear God’s voice. This time, we will learn on how to recognize His voice.
“When God speaks, you will know” – Mother Theresa
The sheep that are My own hear and are listening to My voice; and I know them, and they follow Me (John 10:27)
The truth is, if we are willing to spare time to listening to God’s voice, God will always speak to us. He always cares on everything that happens to us. The problem is not many people can differentiate the voice they hear, is it God’s voice, our own or even the evil’s. There are 6 ways that we will learn to review it, like:
1. Is it consistent with the Bible?
Does our decision or action consistent with the Bible? Spare time to read the Word of God review does our decisions are consistent with the truth written in the Bible. We need to realize that reading God’s Word should be completely and comprehensive, not reading it in piece of verses to justify ourselves.
2. Will it make me more like Jesus?
Inasmuch as we refute arguments and theories and reasonings and every proud and lofty thing that sets itself up against the knowledge of God; and we lead every thought and purpose away captive into the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5)
Does our actions or decision will make us closer to God or become more like Jesus? The purpose of the Christianity is to be like Jesus. So, before we make any decision we need to review the basic thinking underneath. For sure, it’s shouldn’t be against our knowledge of God and not based on our pride.
3. Does my church family confirm it?
Does your church or community confirm your decision? Guidance from our church members can help us. We can ask people who have the same faith with us, or live in Christ or have higher spiritual level than us.
4. Is it consistent with how God shaped me?
For we are God`s handiwork, recreated in Christ Jesus, that we may do those good works which God predestined for us, that we should walk in them – Ephesians 2:10
Does our decision consistent with how God’s works in our lives? We need to know how God worls in our lives and how He shapes our lives so far. In this stage, we need to ponder what He has done in our lives, is doing now and what His plans for us in the future.
5. Is it convicting rather than condemning?
Does the voice you hear convince you or condemn you more? God’s voice always gives hope and enlighten us, but the evil’s voice always judging and condemn. If God reprimands us, it will be uncomfortable but it will make us to be a better person. Condemnation is not from God.
6. Do I sense God’s peace about it?
We night pass 5 stages above but maybe our hearts are still not at peace. If this happens, then we fail this stage and the answer is no because if we follow His plans, the result is peace in our hearts.
